Kindergarten-5th Grade Sessions

Led by KCSO

KCSO will show us a demonstration of all of the important jobs the K9s do every day. We will have a meet and greet with the K9s as well!

Led by Captain Aaron Yarnell, KCSO

Captain Yarnell will talk about how to make smart choices when you use the internet- things like not sharing your personal information or your location, not talking to strangers online, and who to talk to if you need help.

The Knoxville Fire Department will be joining us to share about age-appropriate fire safety tips, and students will have the opportunity to see one of KFD’s fire engines.  This will be an important session to reinforce your family’s fire safety plan.

Led by Larry Overton, Outdoor Survival Instructor

We live in a beautiful part of the country, and we all love to enjoy the outdoors. Sometimes that can hide dangers. This session is designed to help prepare children mentally and physically so they will know what to do if they find themselves in a dangerous situation outdoors.

6th-12th Grade Sessions

Parents, we want to offer your students information on how to make wise choices so they can live the lives God desires for them.

Led by Street Hope TN

We’ll take a look at some of the risks associated with the apps and games common to
teenagers. We will also talk about cyberbullying, the criminal consequences of sexting, and keeping personal information private (including your location!). The goal of this session is to encourage students to make healthy choices online, and to become leaders in their
communities by living a Godly lifestyle even when they’re behind a screen.
Parent Rating: PG with a very mild and brief PG-13 discussion about the consequences of sexting.

Led by Renew Clinic

In this session, you will hear from 2 people who have had first-hand experience of using heavy drugs as teens in middle school and high school and the beautiful story of God’s redemption. We love to hear a good story, but in this session, we are going to take some time to consider why teens will navigate towards drugs, alcohol, fitting in, and even suicidal ideations. What do I believe about my own life? My own story? Who God is? In this open conversation, we are also going to give some practical advice and education on the dangers of drugs and how to use wisdom in our peer groups. In this day and age, 1 time could be too many and it is never worth it.

Led by Hope Resource Center

The primary goal of this session is emphasizing the blessing that can come from sex inside of marriage. We will discuss the benefits of sex within marriage, and the consequences of sex outside of marriage. There will be a brief review of female menstrual cycle focused on understanding conception. We will review the most common sexually transmitted infections. Our hope is to support the conversations parents are having with their students at home providing rationale and opportunity to further consider the importance of sex and why it is worth waiting for. Students will also learn more about Hope Resource Center, and how Hope fits into the broader pro-life movement.
Parent Rating: PG-13

Parent Sessions

Led by Street Hope TN

Parents, we will discuss the apps and games your kids want to use and the potential blind spots you need to be aware of there. We will also talk about device safety, parent monitoring apps, and a foundation for what you need to know to help your students make wise choices online.

Led by Renew Clinic

Many parents have concerns due to the current opioid epidemic our country is facing and the alarming rates of overdose deaths, even in our youth. As parents, navigating parenting in a world of turbulent waters can provoke fear and uncertainty in our hearts. We want to provide a faith-filled conversation about the faithfulness of God and practical help to equip you with. In this session, we will discuss warning signs of substance abuse (what to look for, how to address it), as well as discuss practical resources that are available to minimize access to narcotic medications in the home. We will provide tips for parents whose child is prescribed narcotics or will have to undergo surgery and the differences between abusing drugs, drug dependence and drug addiction. Sometimes, the dreaded question is, “what if I find out my child is using or experimenting with drugs?” Or it could simply be, “How do I educate and prepare my child for a world that is drug-infested and filled with temptations?” Whatever your question may be, bring it and let’s talk about it.

Led by Hope Resource Center

Parents, you will be combined with middle and high school students for this session. We realize this is a sensitive topic, and our goal is to facilitate conversations between you and your students after the conference. If you have younger middle school students and you are
concerned about the sensitive nature of this topic, we will provide an opportunity for them to
join the elementary school sessions during this time. Please reach out to us if you have any questions!
